Living Under the Big Top
Have you ever felt like a plate spinner? You know who I mean, that guy under the big top circus who has all the plates in the the air on really skinny poles and he just keeps adding more and more and more….
It seems as if my life is just so busy. I spend my days living under the big top, running from this practice to the next practice to the next meeting to grabbing groceries, picking up school supplies, taking in notes, keeping doctor appointments, the list goes on and on. I end up with no time to stop and connect with God…I tell myself, usually while I am crawling into bed, I will get up early tomorrow morning and spend an hour in His word reflecting and figuring out how to make more time….what is that buzz…almost like a purr….oh, it’s me, I have fallen asleep…ugh! And “tomorrow” I wake up 20 minutes later than I am supposed to…so I start tossing plates in the air again…..
Unfortunately, after many years of research, I have discovered that finding time to connect with God, won’t just happen. Just like getting into shape won’t just happen, I have also spent years of research on this one, just trust me! The good thing is that God will wait for us and he is always available, last minute or something we plan.
My desire is to be consistant with my time with God. I have found for me the best way to do this is a bible study or growth group. For me, when I know others will be at the meeting and there is a time set to meet…I feel more urgency to hold up my end of the deal. That is not something that I am proud of but it is who I am right now, but I will continue to try and become more consistant on a daily basis.
I once had a small group leader, named Jan, tell me that driving in the car from here to the next practice or whatever it may be, is a way to connect with God. Pray while you are driving…with your eyes open of course. Have a Worship CD on while you run arends or at home when you are cleaning…be creative…God wants your heart and a chance to connect with you, not a schedule that only sets you up for failure and guilt.
Our goal, as women trying to become the women God created us to be, should always be quality time with Christ. Just because I am not there doesn’t mean I can’t attempt to connect with him whenever and however I can.
So, take a minute, thank him, ask him, worship him and don’t punish yourself if you fall sleep during your time with him or get distracted by loud thud that comes from the room your toddler is in…alone…
He is always available and waiting.
James 4:8 Draw near to me and I will draw near to you (NRSV)
